Move Your Body, Free Your Mind
I’m busy working on something at the moment that involves a lot of sitting down at my desk and tapping away on the computer, sometimes for six hours a day! That seems like loads to me, who usually does quite a bit of wandering round the garden and putting the washing on and inventing new kinds of toasted sandwich between bouts of actual ‘working’, not that I even think of it as ‘work’, but anyway…
So I’m making sure I keep moving, and get outside as much as I can. I take Holly and Freddie to school in the mornings before I sit down, and then I take our dogs for a walk on the heath at lunchtime.
I go swimming a couple of times a week, and yes, I do the actual swimming – although there is also a lot of sitting in the bubbly pool thing and in the steam-room with its lovely multi-coloured twinkly lights!
And for about a year I’ve been doing something called Body Balance, which is a mixture of Thai Chi, Yoga and Pilates, to music. Being gym-phobic, the ab-crunching bit in the middle completely does me in, but apart from that it’s fantastic. I think going into Warrior 2 (see pic below – NOT modelled by me, but nice bra thing!) to the sound of Katy Perry’s track Dark Horse has got to be one of the most empowering things on the planet – I feel like bolts of green lightening are going to start shooting out of my fingertips or something.
Seriously, try it. then give the Downward Dog (below) a go too, if you feel like more of a stretch (and, if you haven’t done it before, a laugh!). Awesome leg warmers, BTW!
Don’t do this, though, whatever it’s called – YIKES!
As usual, I am not coming to some kind of conclusion, just thinking aloud, but if there was going to be one, it would be get out there and get moving. It’s great for your body, mind and spirit!
